Best Damn Mellophone Section in all Alumni Corps.

Hello Again,

Practices are getting much more frequent these days.   As the tempo of our rehearsals increase, it seems to me anyway that the recent focus has been on increasing the volume level while maintaining our goals for quality and musicianship; a fine line separates them (see definition of Blastisimo from previous practice).  Of course our technique program and understanding of the basics learned over a fantastic and well planned winter program will allow the unleashing of our outdoor sound.

Don and Bill are once again masterful and full of technique and methods so we can be the best we can be.   Here is a few things I heard in the recording:

  • Driving to the release to obtain that “Echo”, “Energize” through to the end of the note.  Breath marks matter.
  • Energize the note, give “Shape” to notes, articulate, give “Weight” at the beginning of notes.
  • Deliberate Down Beats in Sanchez
  • Get Loud, Sustained Sound, No Breaks; work in your lines and with partners, understand where they need a breath and stagger.   Constant loud sound.

Enjoy folks, off to the next recording.  I think I’ll pull some stuff off the drill practice run through(s).  TBD.

Enjoy!

Jeff
